What's in a Name?
July 29, 2004
by KANE WAI

Many people have asked me how did Chantelle and I come up with "Ethan Douglas" as the name of our baby. So, here's the story.

Ethan is actually named after my dad, David "Yee-Sun" Wai. The etymology of the name comes from the phonetics of his Chinese name, Yee-Sun. We wanted to name our son after my dad because he is a man of integrity and he is well respected by his family and friends. Ethan is a Hebrew name, found in the Old Testament, meaning strong, firm.

Ethan's middle name,Douglas, is named after my best friend from college, Douglas Clinton "Stoney" Pryor. Stoney and I met through Mission, an intercity youth ministry of Grace Bible Church, with which we spent 4 years as small group leaders and directors. Not only has Stoney been a good friend with whom I share many common interests and goals, he was also a great mentor and brother who constantly challenged me to know God and to pursue God and His good and perfect will. I also chose Douglas because there was no way on God's green earth would I name my child's middle name Clinton.
